Kanara Catholic Welfare Association Monthi Fest 2018

Hyderabad, Sep 18: The Mangalorean community in Hyderabad came together for a vibrant celebration of Monthifest on September 9, 2018, hosted at St Patrick’s High School in Secunderabad. The event, which attracted approximately 160 attendees, was a beautiful display of their shared cultural heritage and faith.

The festivities began with a gathering around the statue of Maria Bambina, where the statue, the new rice harvest, and the assembled community received blessings. Fr Reagan D’Souza (a newly ordained Carmelite priest and son of KCWA members), Fr Alwin Mascarenhas SVD, and Fr Lancelot Menezes led the blessings. The air filled with the sounds of Konkani hymns as the attendees, led by children, showered the Maria Bambina statue with flowers. A procession then carried the statue into the school hall, where a Konkani Mass was concelebrated. The KCWA choir provided beautiful music, with the congregation joining in the singing, and children taking the lead with their voices and musical instruments. After the Mass, blessed grain was distributed to everyone present.

Following a refreshment break, the association members and their spouses gathered for the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) in the hall. While they were occupied with the meeting, Ashrita D’Souza and Chelsea D’Cunha organized engaging games and competitions to keep the children entertained.

The AGM commenced with a welcome address by President Alwyn Menezes, followed by the annual report delivered by General Secretary Lavina D’Souza and the financial report presented by Treasurer Ronald D’Silva. The executive committee proposed amendments to KCWA’s rules and regulations, which were discussed and approved by a majority vote. Reena Monis expertly guided the proceedings as the compere. The association also welcomed six new members into the fold.

In recognition of academic excellence, Fr Reagan D’Souza presented medals and certificates to students who had achieved 70% or higher in their school, college, or professional courses.

A delicious lunch featuring traditional homemade Mangalorean dishes, lovingly prepared by member families, was served, along with pieces of sugarcane. The afternoon concluded with spontaneous singing and dancing, adding to the joyous atmosphere. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the rich traditions of the Mangalorean community and fostering a strong sense of belonging.
